Quarterly Market Update - October 2015 27-Oct-15Quarterly Market Update - October 2015 Welcome to our latest Legal Accounts Quarterly Market Update, covering July to September 2015. Whilst the summer period of 2015 did see a marginal slow down in demand for staff within the legal accounts niche in comparison to the first half of the year, there was still a regular flow of new vacancies coming through week by week across a broad range of disciplines and seniority levels. Experienced Finance Systems specialists are increasingly in high demand, particularly at senior levels and we continue to see positive signs of growth with additional headcount requirements arising at both large and SME law firms. We are pleased to see a growing appetite from our clients for exclusive instructions, resulting in more efficient hiring processes and significant savings of time. If you would like to discuss the benefits of using a sole supplier, please feel free to get in touch any time. Areas in highest demand: Senior Finance Systems Partnership Accountants Revenue Controllers Legal Billers Areas in short supply Finance Systems Analysts Revenue Controllers Partnership Accountants Temporary Legal Billers Year on Year growth in number of vacancy instructions received during Q3 period: +14% Key highlights from REC/KPMG produced ‘Report on Jobs’ (October ‘15): -The rate of growth for permanent appointments eased to a 26 month low -Accounting saw the highest level of demand by discipline in September, ahead of Nursing/Medical Care -Availability of permanent staff continued to decline, with the sharpest rate in the Midlands -Availability of temporary and interim staff was in the steepest level of decline in London 2.9% annual growth of employee earnings in the three months to July 3.4% in the private sector *data from the Office for National Statistics Successful appointments we have made during the Q3 period include: EMEA Head of Accounting Finance Systems Manager Senior Systems Accountant Commercial Finance Analyst Partnership Accountant Revenue Controller Senior Financial Accountant Views from the team: “Whilst the UK-wide statistics have shown long term decline in availability for potential staff, our experience within the legal accounts division lately is quite the opposite, for permanent vacancies at least. There are always areas of short supply in such a niche field, but across the accounting spectrum we are seeing a healthy level of interest from our contacts who are ready to take on a fresh challenge when the right opportunity arises, particularly at senior levels.” Richard Hooper “There are always peaks and troughs in demand for certain disciplines, and for the more specialist positions such as Partnership Accounting and Finance Systems it only takes a couple of moves to create a chain reaction with demand ongoing for a period of months. This has certainly been the case for these areas recently, and helps to dictate where we apportion a sufficient amount of our time in ...

Balance continue to sponsor East Herts Youth U9's this season 01-Sep-15The new football season is upon us and we are delighted to again sponsor the East Herts Youth U9's team. Carl Smithies, their coach said: East Herts Youth U9's are looking forward to our new season in the Emerald Division of the Mid Herts Rural Minors League. This season we have moved from 5-a-side format to 7-a-side. This creates a new challenge to our young players as they move up to a format that requires more pass and move football, something we have been working on in the pre season. I would also like to welcome three new players into our team this year, Albie moves up from our Red team and Callum and Freddie have joined us from their previous clubs; I hope they enjoy their time with our team. I would also like to thank Balance for their continued sponsorship of our team. This will be the third season they have sponsored our kits and our team is very grateful for their ongoing support....

Your Quarterly Market Update from Balance - Q2 28-Jul-15Welcome to our latest Legal Accounts Quarterly Market Update, covering April to June 2015. The first half of 2015 has proven to be a consistently busy period within the legal accounting and finance systems niche, with high demand for staff being met with a challenging candidate marketplace. Salaries are very much on the increase across all disciplines, with sizeable counter offer negotiations becoming increasingly prevalent. We’ve also seen a notable increase in demand for interim staff, on both short and long term contracts. The early signs indicate that hiring will continue apace throughout the summer period, and we would encourage employers to plan the timing of hiring processes strategically to ensure they can move quickly through to offer stage, whilst other firms hit delays during the holiday season. Read and download our infographic report which provides an insight into hiring trends and areas in specific demand within the legal accounts niche....
Recruitment: The Solution 13-Jul-15Imagine for a moment a world where every single legitimate introduction a recruiter makes to a client gets invited in for an interview. From the perspective of an employer who uses recruitment consultancies. What would happen? You’d very quickly learn which recruiters you should work with and which ones you shouldn’t. More accountability. You’d very quickly be able to (have to) cut down the number of recruiters you use if you’re already using too many. The recruiters who currently send you 10 CV’s per vacancy would either have to start doing their jobs properly or find a new career elsewhere. You’d take away the over-reliance on searching for the best looking CV and instead be able to focus on identifying the best available applicant (who you might otherwise have rejected). You’d instantly wipe out the time and delay caused by the CV sifting back and forth between HR and line managers. You’d have more time to properly brief the recruiters you do use, which in turn improves the quality of introductions they make. Your employee brand would improve. Fewer people (many irrelevant) would be contacted about (and rejected by) your business. You’d quickly establish if you really are being unrealistic in what you’re asking for. You’d be demanding quality over quantity. Think of the time saving! I’m trying to think of the drawbacks, but I’m genuinely struggling. Anyway, enough day-dreaming, best get back to work… Richard Hooper, Director...
