Monte Carlo or Bust Banger Rally 16-Jun-15Jo Brush, an Executive Administrator in our Business Support Team, together with her brother David and their mutual friend Lee took part in the Monte Carlo or Bust Banger Rally between 4th and 7th June 2015 to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The 7th June marked the 20th anniversary of Jo and David's mother passing away and as Monte Carlo was one of her favourite places they thought it fitting to participate and try to raise as much money as possible. The rules of the rally state you must spend no more than £300 on a car which is then driven to Monte Carlo over a four day period, following a specific route and carrying out various challenges along the way. Although not a race, points are awarded for completing challenges as well as the best dressed car, best dressed team, most money raised and best team spirit. The starting point was in Belgium and over the course of the rally the teams drove through France, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy finishing outside the Casino in Monte Carlo on Sunday afternoon. The nature of the cars purchased meant that sadly not all vehicles finished the rally, despite some valiant efforts by various mechanics and engine enthusiasts along the way. Jo's team were fortunate that their beloved Honda HRV (of course named Harvey) rose admirably to the challenge of the distance covered, despite showing an Engine Management System Failure light on day three on the way to Lake Como. Harvey’s efforts were rewarded upon arrival in Monaco with a lap of the F1 circuit and a number of trips through the famous tunnel. Sadly Harvey was not deemed fit enough to make the journey back to the UK and he had to be left in Nice whilst the team members flew home. A truly memorable experience which is thoroughly recommended to any car enthusiast or anyone who enjoys driving in Europe through some spectacular scenery. In total Jo's team raised approximately £3000 for Cancer Research UK and the Macmillan Trust, both of which are not only very worthy causes but whose contributions to their family life has been priceless.
