So you enjoy working in legal billing and revenue but wouldn’t mind spreading your wings and picking up experience in cashiering or management accounts, perhaps? However, your current employer cannot accommodate your wishes, given the team structure and training required. Sound familiar? If it does, you might consider a position at a specialist boutique law firm like the one below.
My client is a leader in their respective market and has been for some time. You can expect the same high-net-worth clientele you would encounter whilst working for one of the larger international practices. And due to their specialism, there’s no real need to expand much further than the 50 or so employees they have currently.
They boast an impressive retention rate, with former employees speaking highly of their time there and returning years later, so positive was their experience.
You’ll be working as a Revenue Controller in a small but supportive finance team of around five people helping to oversee the revenue life-cycle with some assistance from the Assistant Finance Manager.
Like any accounts department, there will be busy billing periods, so you’ll need to be confident drafting invoices from the get-go. However, it’s not all billing; the remainder of your time will be spent meeting with Partners and Fee Earners to discuss WIP and occasionally chasing payment.
The Assistant Finance Manager and Finance Manager are both down-to-earth and very accommodating. They expect it’ll take time for you to build rapport with the solicitors in the practice and are happy to make introductions and assist where necessary until you can run with it alone.
They have a hybrid working policy allowing people to work from home two days a week. When you’re in the office, they like to arrange social events (Parties, Clay Pigeon Shooting) and drinks as regularly as possible, with Champagne Friday a particularly popular treat.
It’s the little things that keep the staff happy, according to the Assistant Finance Manager. Everyone feels listened to. It’s a friendly place where you will feel comfortable saying hello to anyone, regardless of seniority. It has a real family feel.
