A well-regarded law firm is looking to hire a Junior Legal Cashier —a role built for someone at the start of their career who wants to learn legal finance properly, in a supportive team where training is part of the plan (not an afterthought).
You’ll join a small finance function led by a Head of Finance, working closely with experienced cashiers day-to-day. Early on, the focus is on getting the fundamentals right: accuracy, good record-keeping, and learning how a legal cashiering team supports the wider business—especially at month-end when deadlines matter. As your confidence grows, so will the breadth of what you’re involved in.
The day-to-day is varied. You’ll support the team with bank reconciliations and transfers between client and office accounts, help with month-end processes, and assist with disbursements, credit card reconciliations and client recharges.
You’ll also help keep the purchase ledger moving, support employee expenses, take telephone payments in line with procedure, and be a helpful first point of contact for routine finance queries from the wider firm.
Importantly, you won’t be expected to take ownership of complex reconciliations or make regulatory decisions straight away—this role is about learning the right way, with supervision and structure.
You’ll also gain exposure to the compliance side of legal finance, including an introduction to legal accounting processes, the SRA Accounts Rules and AML controls. Over time, there’s scope for external development (for example, ILFM training) as you build toward a longer-term career path within legal finance.
What they’re looking for
This will suit someone with up to a year’s experience in a finance/accounts/cashiering role (legal experience is helpful but not essential), a basic understanding of bookkeeping (including double-entry), and a methodical, careful approach.
You’ll need to be organised, discreet, and confident communicating with colleagues. Solid Microsoft Office skills—especially Excel—will help, and any exposure to finance/legal systems is a bonus.
