About the Firm
Our client is a well-regarded, sector-focused international law firm with a strong global presence. The Finance team is a substantial and busy function, spanning offices worldwide, with the London team holding responsibility for day-to-day accounting, FP&A, treasury management, statutory reporting and financial oversight of the firm's international offices.
The finance function is at an interesting and genuinely exciting stage of its evolution. There is a growing appetite across the business for more timely, insightful and self-service financial information, and the team is actively moving away from traditional push reporting towards dynamic, real-time dashboarding. This is a firm that is investing in its reporting capability and wants people who are enthusiastic about being part of that journey.
About the Role
This is a newly created FP&A Analyst position, sitting within a small but dedicated reporting sub-team and reporting directly to the Senior Group Reporting Analyst. The role exists because demand for management information and dashboarding has grown significantly, and there is now a clear need for additional resource to help meet those expectations and drive the reporting agenda forward.
Day to day, you will be involved in the preparation and distribution of month-end fee earner reporting packs, the design and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and Excel tools, and fielding performance-related queries from Partners and Associates. You will develop a thorough understanding of the firm's data sources, including its EDI data warehouse and practice management system, and will work collaboratively with the wider Finance team and internal stakeholders to identify improvements and implement new solutions.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and distributing month-end fee earner reporting packs and supporting the design and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and Excel-based tools
- Responding to Partner and Associate queries relating to key performance statistics
- Developing expertise in the firm's data sources to enable effective query management and reporting
- Assisting in the development and implementation of financial performance dashboards and improvements to FP&A reporting processes
- Working with the Senior Group Reporting Analyst and Finance sub-departments to identify operational efficiencies through the application of technology
- Documenting existing and newly implemented financial processes and supporting upgrade and testing projects
- Assisting with ad hoc queries from the Management Board, Senior Partner, Managing Partner and other senior stakeholders
- Contributing to the consistent calculation of key financial statistics and their inclusion in legal surveys and wider publications
About You
We are looking for someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about data, analytics and modern reporting approaches. The emphasis here is on technical capability, analytical strength and intellectual curiosity rather than prior legal sector knowledge, though some familiarity with a professional services environment would be an advantage.
In terms of what you will bring:
- A minimum of two years' experience in an FP&A role
- A degree in Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Data Science or a related analytical discipline
- Solid Power BI experience and genuine enthusiasm to develop further technically
- Strong Excel skills, including nested formulae, lookups, dynamic arrays and Power Query
- The ability to extract data from finance systems and a comfort with working across large datasets
- An analytical, process-improvement mindset and a proactive, creative approach to problem-solving
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with senior stakeholders
- A team-oriented attitude, combined with the self-motivation and organisational ability to manage competing priorities
