A well-established law firm in East London is looking to appoint an Accounts Manager to take over a pivotal role following the planned retirement of a long-standing postholder.

This is a trusted, hands-on position with real breadth and autonomy, sitting at the centre of the firm’s finance operations and compliance framework and working closely with senior stakeholders across the business.

Reporting to the Finance Director and managing an experienced finance team, you will take ownership of the month-end timetable and ensure it is delivered accurately and on time.

You’ll oversee day-to-day legal finance operations, maintain strong controls, and ensure processes are completed properly each day so the function remains consistently compliant and audit-ready.

The role suits someone who combines detail, pace and judgement, and who enjoys being the go-to person for keeping the function running smoothly.

Key duties will include:
  • Owning and delivering month-end, ensuring deadlines are met and reconciliations are robust and up to date
  • Overseeing day-to-day banking activity and client account movements, ensuring controls are followed consistently
  • Managing transfers and ensuring appropriate checks, approvals and records are maintained
  • Supporting and guiding billing processes, resolving queries and improving day-to-day accuracy and turnaround
  • Producing meaningful reporting and management information to support decision-making and identify trends/issues
  • Leading and supporting a stable finance team, providing direction, quality control and oversight of daily workflows
  • Building effective working relationships with Partners and stakeholders across the firm, acting as a trusted point of contact
  • Ensuring the finance function remains continuously prepared for regulatory review, with documentation and processes in order
Given the firm’s work mix, strong legal aid experience is important and applicants should be comfortable operating in an environment where legal aid billing and related processes form a meaningful part of the workload.

The preference is for the incoming Accounts Manager to be office-based as much as possible initially due to the breadth of the remit and the importance of a thorough handover and relationship-building, with flexibility to be shaped longer term once you are established.

Working hours are 9:00am to 5:30pm. The package includes pension and 25 days’ annual leave. Salary sits between £50,000 to £60,000 with flexibility available for the right experience, and the firm is open to discussing a working model that supports both the needs of the role and the right candidate.

This opportunity will particularly suit someone looking for a long-term, stable position where they can become a key part of the business and have genuine influence over how the finance function operates.
